International Women's Day

International Women’s Day should remind each of us to acknowledge, fierce women in our lives (which is all women)!  The women who get up every day with the intent to make our world a better and kinder place for others. The women who “refuse to find comfort in other women’s flaws” (Florence Givens). Be the women who lift up each other and help. It all starts with one and “one girl with courage can change the world” (Brave Girl Rising).

The UN 2024 campaign theme for International Women’s Day is “Accelerate progress.  Investing in Women:  A human rights issue—Time is running out”.  Although we have made progress since the Suffragettes and by the close of 1922 we were no longer chattels and were able to vote, except for Quebec (1940) and Newfoundland (1925), gender equality continues to be one of the greatest human rights challenges.

It’s time to push forward and enter into a new time where women no longer have to fight for such things as safety from human trafficking, remuneration valuing the work women perform, and positions of power in private and public office.
